Think ahead and be prepared for your hair removal service:

  • Hair length: Don’t be embarrassed and make sure you show up with your hair being about ¼ inch long. Not too sure how long that is, think about the size of a grain of rice. Any shorter than this and the hair won’t catch; and alternatively, any longer than this may result in trimming of the hair. Keep in mind that trimming takes time and an extra charge of $10.00 will be applied to your service.
  • Clothing: Have some baggy comfy clothes laying around? Bring them with you! Wearing tight fitted clothing can be irritating and feel uncomfortable on the skin.
  • Clean skin: Make sure you come with clean and dry skin. Skip the lotions, oils and powders before your treatment as this can prevent the wax or sugar from adhering to the hair.
  • Exfoliating: Hold up on exfoliating your skin the day before, the day of, and the day after your service.
  • Water exposure: Avoid being in hot baths the day of your appointment. Waxing or sugaring will not be done on any sunburns.
  • UV exposure: Avoid being in the sun/tanning beds 24 hours before your appointment. Waxing or sugaring will not be done on any sunburns.
  • Piercings: Make sure to remove any piercings to the areas that will be waxed/sugared.
  • Menses: Ladies, be prepared that if you are approaching your menses (period) within 1 week of your appointment, you may experience extra sensitivity. Ouch! It is always best to plan ahead and try to book around this sensitive time. Due to sanitary reasons, if you are booked for a bikini or Brazilian when you are on your menses, please take note of the cancellation policy and reschedule. Service will be denied at the time of your appointment and 100% of your service will be charged to the credit card on file.

How to care for your hair removal service afterwards:

  • Other hair removal methods: Hold off on shaving or using depilatory creams between your waxing/sugaring appointments. Rather, book your follow-up appointment within the next 3-4 weeks.
  • Lotions: Steer clear of any harsh lotions or products for at least 48 hours and keep the skin clean.
  • UV exposure: Avoid exposing the area to UV rays for at least 48 hours. This includes going to tanning beds or being out in the sun. Also avoid infrared lamps for 48 hours.
  • Water: Avoid the relaxation of hot baths for 24 hours.
  • Exfoliating: Avoid exfoliating for at least 48 hours.
  • Hygiene products: To avoid irritating the skin, do not use deodorant, perfume soaps, or products with chemical irritants for 24 hours.
  • Exercising: Don’t push off exercising until after your hair removal service. Get your fitness on before your appointment. It is recommended to wait 24 hours before exercising again.
  • Self-tanners: Hold off on using tanning accelerators for 2-3 days.
  • Appropriate aftercare follow-up: Follow-up with recommended Oak Mist Esthetics Inc. after care products to prevent ingrown hairs, treat dark spots, and to keep your skin hydrated.
